Artistic Director at BYTE.
Joachim Matschoss was born in Germany and now lives in Melbourne/Australia. He is a playwright, poet, Theatre-maker and Artistic Director of ‘Backyard Theatre Ensemble (BYTE)’. Joachim has created theatre in Australia, New Zealand, United Kingdom, India, Uzbekistan, Malaysia, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Hungary, Taiwan, Switzerland and China. He lectures ‘Devising’ at the National Theatre Melbourne.
Joachim is fascinated by creating work from scratch and is less interested in seeing a piece of theatre grow like a flower, but more so like a weed, something raw, something with cracks, and something that is challenging both the performer and the audience member.

Why BYTE Ensemble?
BYTE creates theatre with both adult and young performers. We provide opportunities for local actors to be involved in ensemble productions in venues across Melbourne and other parts of Australia and annually on tours nationally and internationally.
BYTE gives performers unique experiences to create work that expose them and their creativity to audiences around the world. The ensemble/s will along the way have the opportunity to view live theatre in the UK or the USA as well as in Europe and be involved in workshops with the Globe Theatre, National Theatre in London and the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford-Upon-Avon.
BYTE offers master classes and workshops around the world.
